Last year’s Vans Warped Tour marked the debut of the Full Sail-presented Acoustic Basement stage. Along with a rotating line-up of intimate and acoustic performances from artists on tour, we had one Show Production grad spend the entire summer on the road working as an intern on the stage. We’re excited that this year, just as the Acoustic Basement stage has grown in size and popularity, the number of grads heading out on Warped Tour has increased as well.
Full Sail grads Dusty Feeney (Entertainment Business), Ashley Parker (Show Production), David Sunshine (Digital Arts & Design), and Maggie Ward (New Media Journalism Master’s) will all be interning for the tour this summer in various roles.
Dusty will be working in the tour’s mobile production office, making sure the office is set up daily and answering any questions that the bands and crew on tour have. “I’ve always wanted to be a part of this festival since I was 15, and now I get to be,” says Dusty. “I’m looking forward to learning new things and hearing new bands.”
Ashley, similar to the internship our Show Production grad, Ryan Luistro, had on Warped Tour last year, will be working as an Assistant Sound Engineer on the Acoustic Basement stage. She tells us that she’ll be responsible for setting up the stage and sound equipment, assisting the stage manager, and mixing live audio during the Acoustic Basement sets. David, the only of the the four interns who won’t be on tour but rather working remotely, will be creating graphics for both print and web to promote the tour.
“I’m most excited about getting to see something I create be made into a huge stage backdrop for thousands of people to see,” says David.
Maggie will be gathering photos, video, and written content for the Absolute Voices network of websites, including Property of Zack, PunkNews, Absolute Punk, and Under the Gun Review, along with guest-blogging for us. Her updates from the road will be posted here on FullSailBlog.com every week this summer, starting next Friday.
“The idea of traveling to all of the major cities in America is overwhelmingly exciting,” says Maggie. “It’s such an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”
Warped Tour begins next Friday, June 14, in Seattle and ends August 4 in Houston. Artists on the Acoustic Basement stage will include Craig Owens (of Chiodos), Ace Enders (of The Early November), William Beckett, and more. We’ll also have a Full Sail tent set up at every date, which will feature autograph sessions with headliners Memphis May Fire (and Never Shout Never on select dates). We’ll be giving away tickets to most dates on our Facebook page all summer long and keeping you up-to-date on #WarpedTour on Twitter.
