Students Learn About Sim Industry, Vet Services on Veterans Day

To honor our more than 2,400 student and staff veterans and veterans’ dependents, Full Sail and the Veterans Student Union hosted our annual Veterans Day event on Nov. 11. The four-hour event began with a flag ceremony and the National Anthem, followed by presentations from guest speakers, including Full Sail President Garry Jones, retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, and recent Recording Arts grad and Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeremie Gilbert.

Students were invited to participate in workshops of special interest to veterans. These included a seminar on opportunities in the modeling and simulation industry, as well as a presentation about the Hero 2 Hired program, in which representatives discussed resume building skills, veterans’ benefits, and transition assistance. There was also a vendor fair with representatives from the Camaraderie Foundation, the Department of Veterans Affairs, reThink, and Orlando City Soccer.

Next up for student veterans: On Nov. 26, the Veterans Student Union will be hosting its 3rd annual Veteran’s Thanksgiving Dinner, catered by Boston Market and 4 Rivers Smokehouse.
