Our Career Development Department hosted their monthly Animation Industry Spotlight last week, which brought two very different guests from the digital graphics industry to campus. A mix of tech talk and career tips – it was another insightful entry in this ongoing lecture series as both opened up their different worlds to students.
The first speaker was Ed Oliveras, a 3D laser scanning consultant and distributor from GO 3D Inc. This Orlando company specializes in creating 3D digital scans of physical environments for use in different applications. They’ve done both exterior and interior work for everything from crime scene reconstructions to architectural surveying. Ed even brought along one of their scanners, and demonstrated its uses by doing a live scan of the lecture hall and students.
Following Ed’s presentation was Jack Geckler, who is no stranger to the Full Sail community. Jack graduated from our Computer Animation program in 2000, and we’ve been following his career as he’s worked on a number of popular animated films from the past decade – including Beowulf, Kung Fu Panda 2, and this summer’s Turbo. During his lecture Jack spoke to students about his evolution from working in the video game industry to feature films, and offered advice on honing in on your own goals and expectations before venturing into the industry.
