Minions, the latest installment in the beloved and hilarious Despicable Me franchise, arrived in U.S. theaters today. Already, the film has earned $6.2 million from Thursday night previews alone – an animated film opening record.
The story is part spin-off, part prequel, and documents the bumbling evolution of Minions, the fictional yellow creatures introduced in 2010’s Despicable Me. The Minions travel across the globe, seeking to serve history’s most despicable masters – a T. Rex, Dracula, and Napoleon, among others – while accidentally killing each along the way. Eventually, their adventure leads to Orlando, FL, where they meet and accompany Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first female supervillain.
The Minions are voiced by French animator and actor Pierre Coffin, and Mrs. Overkill by Sandra Bullock. Other actors lending their pipes to the film include Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, and Steve Carell.
We’re proud to announce that Recording Arts graduates Gary Rizzo and Alexander Verbitskiy also contributed their expertise to the film during post-production. Gary worked as a sound re-recording mixer, and Alexander worked as a score technical engineer.
