As the 2011 awards season continues, Full Sail graduates have been receiving some very notable recognition for the hard work that they have contributed to the entertainment industry. The school celebrated last month’s GRAMMY® Awards with an on-campus viewing party, and students and staff recently returned to Full Sail Live for an Oscar celebration and viewing of the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
Guests got to walk the red carpet into the venue, and watch the broadcast inside while rooting for the Full Sail grads who worked on nominated projects. This year saw 84 Full Sail grads credited on 23 Oscar®-nominated motion pictures, including Black Swan,Inception, The Fighter, True Grit, The Social Network, Winter’s Bone, The Kids Are All Right, Tron: Legacy,How To Train Your Dragon, Blue Valentine, Toy Story 3, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, and more.
During commercial breaks, hosts Jay Noble (Director of Alumni Relations) and Rick Ramsey (Director of Visual Arts) offered up Full Sail/Oscar trivia and tidbits about the awards show. Prizes were also given out during a series of short contests and on-stage competitions.
At the end of the night, more than 36 graduates of the Computer Animation, Digital Media, Entertainment Business, Film, and Recording Arts degree programs worked on eight Oscar®-winning films. As if that feat weren’t enough to raise the energy at Full Sail Live, Recording Arts graduate/Full Sail Hall of Fame inductee Gary Rizzo was also awarded an Oscar® in the Best Achievement in Sound Mixing category for his work on the film Inception. Rizzo accepted the Oscar® in front of a worldwide televised audience, including a venue of cheering Full Sailors back in Winter Park, Florida.
