Record producer, studio engineer, and entrepreneur Sylvia Massy will be on campus Tuesday, May 22 to talk to students about her 25-plus year career in the music industry. Sylvia, the owner of RadioStar Studios, is most notably known for producing the 1993 platinum-selling debut album from GRAMMY award-winning rock band Tool. After working with Tool, Sylvia joined forces with legendary producer Rick Rubin to engineer and produce albums for the likes of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Johnny Cash, Slayer, System of a Down, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Her recording studios – located in Weed, California – are housed in a former 1920s Art Deco Vaudevillian theater and are home to some of the industry’s most vintage and rare recording equipment and instruments. Her recent clients include Sublime with Rome and Joanna Newsom. The presentation, organized by the Career Development, will be on Tuesday, May 22, in FS3F-Room 115 at 5:00 p.m.
