Grad Jonathan Mayer: What are you playing?

What do the artists who help make your favorite entertainment look to for inspiration? We ask our graduates who are working on blockbuster films, top selling albums, hit video games, and more.

Jonathan Mayer
Recording Arts, 2002
Music Manager, Sony Computer Entertainment America
Credits: God of War II, God of War III, Infamous, The Last of Us, Resistance: Retribution, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Full Sail: Have you been playing any of the big Fall/Winter releases?

Jonathan Mayer: I just got the new Hitman: Absolution and it’s really fun. I was always a fan of those games, and it’s a lot like the other ones in the series but better. I’m also eight or ten hours into Dishonored and I’m really enjoying that one too. I have a bunch of time off for the holidays so I’m just going to try to burn through as much recent stuff as I can.

FS: Are there any other games that stood out for you in 2012?

JM: I recently finished up Max Payne 3 that came out this summer. The darkness of that was really heavy, and kind of got to me after awhile because he’s such a bleak dude. I liked the presentation a lot though, and I really liked the score. The way they handled the audio was a lot of fun and it was a different way to approach it.

FS: It’s great that you keep up with so many games outside of your own projects.

JM: I try to play as much as possible, which is the biggest advice i always give to people who say that they want to do this. You have to know your craft, and if you want this as your career you should be playing as many games as you can.

I can’t believe that I missed that event! I should have gone when he came as a guest speaker. Playing as many games as I can, that’s why I missed it.

Yes, it was really good the experience! I hope that it can be repeated again!
