ESPN‘s coverage of the UEFA European Football Championship 2012 kicked off earlier this month, and with that came the premiere of The Fire Within, the pyrotechnic and stunt-filled creative campaign that will air throughout the broadcast, including the opening sequences before each match. Full Sail staff and students helped in the production, directed by Rico Labbe and Mike Sciallis of Victory Pictures, in partnership with ESPN’s Creative Content Unit and Emerging Technology Group. The production team shot May 7 – 9 at the Orlando City Soccer practice complex in Sanford, Florida, with one day for prep and two overnight shoots lasting from 6 pm. to 6 a.m.

“This was the first shoot we have done on location that was crewed by Full Sail students and staff,” said Mike Retherford, Full Sail’s Director of Production. “We had a total of 14 students and 11 staff members contributing to camera, grip and electric, makeup, and behind the scenes. It was a fantastic shoot to be involved in, and I am honored that we were able to be a part of it.”

Check out behind-the-scenes video and photos from the shoot, which features some pretty impressive effects and stunt work. The EURO 2012 soccer championships are airing on ESPN from now until Sunday, July 1.
