The 54th Annual Grammy Award nominations were recently announced, and we’re pleased to see that a number of Full Sail graduates worked as engineers, mixers, and assistants on many of the year’s notable projects. Although we’re still in the initial stages of compiling our complete list of grads who worked on Grammy-nominated projects, we wanted to share some of the early highlights we’ve found.

2007 Recording Arts grad Phillip Knight worked as an assistant on Lady Gaga’s sophomore hit Born This Way. The album and its singles were nominated in six categories this year, including top award Album of the Year, as well as Best Female Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Other graduates featured on notable nominees include Sam Hofstedt who was an engineer on Eddie Vedder’s solo record Ukulele Songs (Best Folk Album), Chris Steffen, assistant engineer on Foster the People’s Torches (Best Alternative Music Album), and Graham Marsh, engineer for Cee Lo Green’s album The Lady Killer (Best Pop Vocal Album), which featured the single “Fool For You” (Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song).

Six graduates also contributed to Taylor Swift’s Speak Now, which received a nod for Best Country Album, with the hit single “Mean” nominated for Best Country Song. These grads include Andrew Bollman (assistant/assistant engineer), Tristan Brock-Jones (assistant engineer), David Bryant (assistant engineer), Seth Morton (assistant engineer), John Netti (assistant engineer), and Mark Petaccia (assistant engineer).

Full Sail alumni have a long history at the Grammy Awards, with graduates contributing to such notable Album of the Year winners like Carlos Santana’s Supernatural and Outkast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

Again, this is just a partial and preliminary listing of the Full Sail grads who worked on this year’s Grammy-nominated projects.
