SXSW is upon us, and if you know even a little about the annual music/film/interactive conference and festival, you know that there will be no shortage of awesome events in Austin, Texas over the next few weeks.
Full Sail University will be present throughout SXSW, starting with a presentation tomorrow from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Hilton Austin Downtown (Room 408) as part of SXSWedu.
Education Media Design & Technology faculty members Kathy Craven and Sue Bedard are pairing with Sharyn Gabriel (Principal of Ocoee Middle School) and Sheri Brinkerhoff (high school arts teacher for Seminole Public Schools) for the CBL Pilot Project. The presentation goes into the fundamentals of Challenge Based Learning, and challenges participants to use its practices to give students the chance to be change agents and learning facilitators.
“If delivered correctly, Challenge Based Learning is innovative and just what today’s students need,” says Bedard, who is a Course Director of the EMDT program. “It brings a real world problem into the local community for the students to provide solutions for. They’re required to carry out an action and have measurable results, and they’re required to reflect on the processes they are implementing and refine them until they get the desired results.”
