Students Finish in Top 10 at the 2016 International Collegiate DECA Competition

Six students from the Entertainment Business and Sports Marketing & Media bachelor’s degrees competed in the 2016 International Collegiate DECA Competition last week in Washington, D.C. and they did not come away empty handed. All six students who competed finished in the “Top 10” of their respective divisions, and two students even received First Place! At this year’s competition, over 1600 students competed in 27 events from schools including University of Central Florida, Belmont, University of Virginia, and Purdue.

“This is a major accomplishment because it is the first time that any Full Sail student earned this honor at Internationals,” said Education Director of Business Schools Eric Saperstein.

Entertainment Business bachelor’s student Sydney Low and Sports Marketing & Media bachelor’s student Kyle Newman were awarded first place in the Sports & Entertainment category, which challenges a team of two students to analyze a real-world sports and entertainment marketing case situation, then present solutions to a professional judge with experience in sports and entertainment marketing.

The remaining students received accolades in their categories as follows:

  • Coley Grant and Jordan Kleeman – B2B Marketing
  • Sydney Low and Kyle Newman – Sports & Entertainment Marketing
  • Cameron Bramham – International Sales Challenge
  • Preston King – Entrepreneurship

“These students have now set the highest bar possible by all six of them placing in the Top 10 at international, followed by an outstanding First Place finish in Sports & Entertainment Marketing! It was an exhilarating experience, and I couldn’t be prouder of how well this group represented our university and business school,” said club advisor and Entertainment Business and Music Business bachelor’s Program Director Jackie Otero.

If you are interested in getting involved with DECA, the group hosts mini-challenge events once a month to recruit new members and offers a sample case study competition. Be sure to follow Collegiate DECA on Connect to stay up-to-date on their news and events.
