Student Music Highlighted at March Session Records Producers Showcase

The music presented by the 12 student production companies at this month’s Session Records Producers Showcase ran the gamut of popular music, from pensive alt-rock to swagger-filled hip hop. But despite the wide range of styles, all of the competitors received the same kind of honest feedback and criticism from a panel of Full Sail faculty members/industry experts.

Every month, the Sessions Records Producers Showcase gives Recording Arts students the opportunity to shop an artist to the fictional Session Records label. After they record, develop, and come up with a marketing plan for the artist, they present to the “label executives.” This month, that panel included Chief Financial Officer Bill Thompson (Director, Mobile Marketing & Commerce, Entertainment Business Master’s), Director of Legal Affairs Davey Spicciati (Director, Music Copyright & Publishing, Music Business Bachelor’s), and Label Founder/CEO Mike Reaves (Director, Sessions, Recording Arts Bachelor’s).

The audience of fellow students and guests get to vote, too, and this month the popular vote matched the panel’s decision. This month’s signee was rapper Vinny D, whose One Source Entertainment presented with a music video for the song “1:59.” The video will now grace the screen of Full Sail’s Campus Display on the Film Backlot, but you can also check it out here.
