Staff Members Show Their Spirited Sides at Halloween Costume Contest

Full Sail’s staff members are a creative bunch, and Halloween is a favorite holiday at the university. Each year, the school holds costume, pumpkin carving, and lobby decorating competitions, awarding prizes to the winners. The day’s festivities culminate in the Halloween costume contest event.

This year, minions, zombies, video game characters, and even Carl Sagan walked the stage at Full Sail’s costume competition. The Best Costume winners were Dan Williams (Sharknado), Tammy Phillips (a minion from Despicable Me), Kelly Stewart (Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones), and employees from Online Admissions who depicted ‘Snow White, Bro White, and the Seven Dwarves.’

Williams, who is a Course Director for the Web Design & Development degree program, said he made his Sharknado tornado out of PVC pipe, batting, and acoustical foam, and sewed the interior shark costume himself.

“It’s powered by a drill in the back, and it’s connected to a switch inside my costume so I can make it turn,” says Williams.

Rounding out the announcement of winners, the Psychology Department took home the prize for the pumpkin-carving competition, and the Financial Aid Department was named Best Lobby for its Roaring ‘20s theme.
