It’s all about the Benjamins, as a scholar from the late 20th century once said. Many students at Full Sail graduate with a killer idea or business model that could very well shake up the entertainment industry, but a concept will only travel so far without the necessary capital to drive it. More often than not, this is where investors come into the picture.
Full Sail students recently were invited to the Entertainment Business Auditorium to attend the aptly titled “Show Me the Money!” seminar, hosted by Entertainment Business Master of Science Program Director Ron Cook. During his 90-minute presentation, Cook – an accredited investor himself – gave students useful information to research and consider when searching for potential investors.
Cook’s lecture covered topics such as debt vs. equity, the different types of risk capital investors, the optimal funding mix, the pros and cons of allowing an investor to get involved in the actual business, landing an appointment with a potential investor, and tips for crafting the perfect elevator pitch. Following his presentation, Cook opened the floor up to answer questions from students in the audience.
