2002 Computer Animation graduate Nathaniel Howe returns to campus this Thursday to host a lecture for students about his work as a creative director in the Los Angeles film and television industry. As co-owner of the studio Nathaniel James, along with partner James Sweigert, Nathaniel specializes in design, animation, and production, with a credit list that includes such hits as Boardwalk Empire, Dancing with the Stars, and Sons of Anarchy.
Nathaniel’s presentation is titled “Listening to the Whispers – Unlocking the Mysteries of Inspiration,” which will feature examples of his work over the past decade. As he explained to us, the presentation will offer a look into the processes that have helped him succeed as both an artist and entrepreneur.
“I will focus on how to generate your best creative ideas and distill design challenges down to their core essence,” he says. “With the launch of my own studio I can provide graduates employment and growth opportunities which is really exciting for me.”
Nathaniel has remained active in the Full Sail community while building his career, and is a current member of our 3D Arts Advisory Board, which gives him input on the curriculum covered in our computer graphics programs. Having this academic interaction is a great resource for current students, and continues to be an inspiration to Nathaniel in his own career.
“I find their enthusiasm and desire to grow as artists inspiring,” he says. “Every time I return I remember being a student walking those same halls, honing my skills, and hoping to break into the industry. Visits are special to me both from a reflective place and from a future oriented place. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have gone to Full Sail and to remain connected to the school after graduation.”
