Each year, Graphic Design USA names a list of individuals who represent talent, leadership, success, newsworthiness and community service in the design industry. Graphic Design bachelor’s graduate Lizzie Miller and Media Design MFA graduate Julia Royal were placed on this list among 71 other top students in the industry.
Both women attribute much of their success to being dedicated students and active networkers in the industry in order to carve out their own personal brands. “I kept reminding myself that my success in my coursework would reflect in the work I’d get to do when the grades disappeared,” Lizzie says.
“At the end of the day, be loud about being yourself,” says Julia. “Be aware of trends and stay on top of new technology, but it’s definitely okay to not fit into a specific niche. There are classmates I talk to on a daily basis, and having people that I can relate to has been very motivating and instrumental to my growth as a designer.”
Lizzie is currently working as a graphic designer for The Life Church in Memphis, Tennessee, and Julia is a graphic designer for print and design studio Creative Approach in Savannah, Georgia.
Since 1963, Graphic Design USA has been a leading source of information for graphic designers on news, influential people, innovative technology, and the latest trends in the industry.
