If you’re not already familiar with Oscar-nominated animator, cartoonist, director, writer, and producer Bill Plympton, chances are you’ve seen his work and just don’t know it. Bill’s humorous illustrations and cartoons have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines, he’s created commercials for companies like Taco Bell, Geico, and Microsoft and segments for MTV and “The Simpsons,” and he’s made more than 40 animated shorts and six feature-length films.
Kanye West – “Heard ‘Em Say.” Plympton animated portions of the music video for Kanye West’s 2005 single, “Heard ‘Em Say,” which also featured Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine.
Microsoft Windows ’95. A man turns into a butterfly in this Microsoft Windows ’95 commercial, which Plympton animated in 1995.
“Guard Dog.” This clip from Plympton’s Oscar-nominated short Guard Dog, which premiered in 2003, features an energetic dog that later would become a main character in several of his animated shorts (including Guide Dog and Hot Dog).
“Summer Bummer.” As part of Showtime’s 2012 ‘SHORT Stories’ series, a batch of animated shorts from established creators, Plympton created this short about a man afraid of a shark in his swimming pool.
MTV Environment: Acid Rain. And here’s a little vintage MTV for you: Plympton animated this public service announcement on acid rain for the music television network back in 1989.
