Independent game developer Gearbox Software will be at the Hyatt Grand Cypress (near Walt Disney World) next month, and they’re looking for gamers to be a part of a Focus Testing Group to try out an unreleased game. On Saturday, May 5, volunteers will spend the day learning and playing the new game, sharing their input with developers, and taking part in tournaments.

The game Gearbox is testing is being kept top secret, but the company’s website highlights two different ones currently in production, so our guess is you’ll either be playing Aliens: Colonial Marines, a first-person shooter game set in the same environment as the popular Aliens movie franchise; or Borderlands 2, the sequel to the company’s popular four-player cooperative shooter game that combines “first-person mayhem with role-playing gameplay.”

Anyone is welcome (you must be at least 18 years old), but Game Development students eager to network and meet employers may especially want to go because Gearbox reps will be in attendance to review portfolios. To sign up, send an email to before 5 p.m. this Friday, April 20. You must sign a non-disclosure agreement to participate.
