Full Sail University to Host the 2011 Central Florida SPORTYS

Central Florida sports fans can look forward to an exciting evening of awards and entertainment, as Full Sail University has announced it will be holding the inaugural PNC Bank SPORTYS in the Full Sail Live Venue on September 24th. Hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission, the SPORTYS is an event that honors top area high school, amateur, collegiate, and professional athletes, coaches, deserving local residents, and businesses in the local community.

Hosted by Mitch English (stand-up comedian, weather man, and co-host of the nationally syndicated morning show The Daily Buzz), the SPORTYS has an impressive list of nominees up for awards this year, including Orlando Magic Center Dwight Howard, swimmer/Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte, and Duke University Shooting Guard Austin Rivers.

The event will also induct the Hall of Fame Class of 2011 into the Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame, where 80 other Central Floridians have already been honored for their accomplishments in the sports industry. This year’s inductees include award-winning NBA coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers, Florida Citrus Sports CEO Chuck Rohe, and five-time NFL Pro Bowler Ricky Watters.

“As educators in the field of entertainment and media we recognize the vital role that sports, in all of its various forms, play in our lives and in our community,” says Full Sail President Garry Jones. “We are delighted and honored to serve as the host location for this year’s Central Florida Sports Hall of Fame inductions and the Inaugural PNC Bank SPORTYS at Full Sail University.”

The SPORTYS kicks off with a red carpet ceremony and pre-event reception from 6:30-7:00 PM. The awards program will take place from 7:00-8:30 pm, and will be immediately followed by the Ruth’s Chris Steak House Overtime Party, where guests will enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvre, drinks and live entertainment.
