Brookshire Elementary in Winter Park recently recognized Full Sail University as an “Outstanding Partner in Education.” Full Sail’s Federal Work Study program provides Full Sail students with the opportunity to work at local elementary schools through the America Reads initiative, which promotes literacy among elementary students.

Students work an average of 30 hours a month, assisting teachers by working with students both in group settings and one-on-one. Other tasks that students take on through the Federal Work Study program include grading papers, helping to organize the classroom environment, and working with students after school.

The Partners in Education program links businesses and organizations with schools in relationships that enhance student learning and promote school improvement. In a partnership, a business adopts a school – or schools – and shares its human and material resources.

In the 2009-2010 school year, Brookshire Elementary was one of 86 Orange County Public Schools designated as a Five Star School, recognized for its exemplary community involvement.
