Computer Animation students recently were able to learn more about the industry during a classroom visit from Director/CG Artist/Visual FX Supervisor Erick Schiele. Schiele has worked on a variety of notable projects in films including Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland, 2012, and I, Robot, as well as 3D and 2D assets for GMC/Nissan, Scion, and more.
During his presentation, Schiele talked to students about his career path, shared stories behind the production of some of the projects from his reel, and spoke about what it’s like to be a working professional in the entertainment industry. He also answered questions from students eager to learn more about getting a foot in the door after graduation.
Schiele also stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between the digital and more traditional aspects of art during the creative process. “I went to a traditional school that didn’t have any digital component to it,” he said. “It’s so important to have a wide range of knowledge, and the students at Full Sail are so bright. It’s important to not just think in terms of software, or just in terms of filmmaking – they should know that they’re artists, too. I really wanted to impart that on everybody in the classroom.”
