Over 400 students and recent graduates attended a hiring event on Tuesday, October 13 at the Full Sail Live Venue. Sponsored by Full Sail’s Career Development department, the event featured over 30 employers, including IBM Design, FanDuel Inc., Club Med, Carnival Cruise Lines, and Bisk Education.
The Live Venue was transformed into a multi-industry expo, with rows of booths featuring company signage and on-site interviews, as well as tables for networking scattered throughout.
Full Sailors within five months of their graduation date and from all degree programs were eligible to participate, and attended dressed in professional attire and donning resumes and business cards. There were no pre-scheduled meetings, just a lively atmosphere with ample opportunities for mingling – plus, lots of hand-shaking. Over 1,000 interviews were held during the event.
Tom Oberdick, a Career Development Industry Outreach Liaison, says he received positive feedback about the event. “The students and grads I talked to liked that there was an open floor. No pre-screening or any of that. You could talk to whomever you wanted to for as long as you wanted to.”
Antoine Yetts, a Recording Arts student, came prepared with a digital resume and portfolio. “A classmate and I used the files from our class projects as a portfolio, and then downloaded our resumes, and put it all on a flash drive. I was able to talk to the leader of the audio post-production program at Live!, and I gave it all to him. That was pretty big.”
Alongside the hiring event in the Live Venue, the EB Auditorium also hosted a series of career-related presentations throughout the day, all of which featured continued opportunities to network. Presenting companies included Winsome Sinclair, Wyndham Worldwide, AKT, and Union Editorial. Network Music Conference also held a social mixer, which provided attendees the chance to interact with members of REVOLT TV network and more.
