Basketball Hall of Famer Mannie Jackson was on campus last Friday afternoon to take part in the first public screening of Goose, the sports documentary he created and executive produced in partnership withTeamworks Media. The 45-minute film tells the story of Reece “Goose” Tatum, a former Harlem Globetrotter and Basketball Hall of Famer who became one of the game’s most entertaining players.
“It’s such an unlikely overcoming of incredible, incredible odds,” said Mannie. “Many of this generation today may not even fathom the odds [Goose] overcame.”
After the screening, Mannie was introduced to the crowd by Sherman Brown, the chairman of local sports, entertainment, and media firm, 3Media LLC. Full Sail’s Sports Marketing & Media Program Director Josh Mora then moderated a Q&A with Mannie that touched on his inspiration for creating Goose, his history as a basketball player, and his successful business career as a Fortune 500 chairman and owner of the Harlem Globetrotters.
Mannie ended his visit in the Full Sail Live Venue lobby where he signed copies of his new memoir, Boxcars to Board Rooms, for faculty, staff, and students in attendance. The book is full of anecdotes and advice about overcoming odds to achieve success in both the sporting and professional worlds.
