Full Sail recently welcomed Avatar Studios President Kirk Imamura to campus to speak with students about his career and share the insight about successfully running a recording studio that he’s gained over the years.
Since opening in 1996, New York City-based Avatar Studios has seen a number of artists pass through its doors, including Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, John Mayer, Muse, Norah Jones, My Morning Jacket, and more. Under Imamura’s direction, Avatar has been awarded five TEC Awards for Outstanding Creative Achievement.
During his presentation in the Entertainment Business Auditorium, Imamura spoke to students about the skills and organization necessary to operate a recording studio – whether it’s six-room facility like Avatar or a more modest set-up. He also spoke about the various technical challenges that he’s faced throughout his career, and how his experience in equipment design, software development, and manufacturing operations has helped him over the years. Following his presentation, Imamura also answered questions from students during an open Q&A session.
