Alumni-Owned Post-Production Studio Creates VFX for Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Self/less’

Self/less, the psychological science fiction thriller starring Ryan Reynolds and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, will be released in U.S. theaters today.

The film features Kingsley as a terminally ill millionaire who, with the help of a revolutionary – and depraved – medical procedure, transfers his consciousness into the body of a younger man (Reynolds). After a brief, blissful romp in his new body (think YOLO meets Big), he learns that his new existence comes with a complicated and splintered past.

The film’s wide-ranging visual effects were created by Skulley FX, the post-production studio founded by 1998 Digital Media graduate and Third Annual Hall of Fame Inductee Culley Bunker. Culley, alongside a team of visual artists consisting of four additional Full Sail grads, worked on shots that included gunshot ricochets, melting mirrors, flame throwers, a “shedding machine,” and “memory glitches.”

Below is the list of grads who worked with Skulley FX on Self/less :

  • Edwin Miller (Computer Animation)
  • Ramon Hamilton (Computer Animation)
  • Culley Bunker (Digital Media)
